Huey, Dewey and Louie in Supreme, Nike, Givenchy and MORT by Simeon Georgiev

Simeon Georgiev is a Bulgarian-born artist. Although the Internet doesn't offer much information on him (at the present moment), I found out about him through the Nike robotics and LEGO streetwear figurines. Those two projects really struck a chord, especially donning the LEGO figurines in today's latest fashion styles.

His latest piece of work is no different from the LEGO project except he has 'teamed' up with the famous terrible three; Huey, Dewey & Louie. Still feeling a little lost there? Let me help you out. They are the identical triplet nephews of Donald Duck. They are usually dressed in red, blue and green (respectively) and are famous for setting about on mischievous endeavours. However, they have discarded their usual trim for new modern designs.

Georgiev decided to stick to three colours; black, white, grey and black. In one of the photos, the 'boys' are seen wearing SUPREME hoodies and caps, teamed up with the iconic Air Max 1's. In the second photo, we see them in monochromatic styling, in black Givenchy zipper hoodies and sneakers, teamed up with a MORT cap.To see these brilliant works of art head here.

Brunei Prince Blows $14,8 Billion

(By Paul Grover)

Brunei is a small state on the north coast of the island of Borneo, nearby Malaysia and Indonesia. It is classified as a developed nation, and is known for its petroleum and natural gas fields. They were a colony of the United Kingdom and gained its independence in 1984.

The nation is particularly known for the spending done by Prince Jefri Bolkiah. It as shown to us that he had blown close to $15 billion on tangible assets such as property, cars, aircrafts, paintings and jewelry. This might be insane, but I am a fan of Jefri because of his car collection. He has the rare honour of producing the first Bentley SUV, years before the EXP 15 concept came to life. He has very rare Rolls Royce, Ferrari, Porsche and other luxury vehicles. He is particularly famous for commissioning unusual and rare models, such as the McLaren F1, Ferrari F40 LM and Ferrari F90. One unsurprising fact as the fact that all the cars are rotting away because there was no longer any money to pay for their maintenance. So what you have is a vast metal grave containing over 2000 spectacular cars. If I had the monetary means, I would try to salvage those salvagable models. To find out more on what he spent tbe money on, click here.

Hip-Hop Making Moves into Mainstream Education

Good news hip-hop community, Sean "Puff Daddy" Combs has become the focus of a university course. The Clive Davis Institute of Recording Music at New York University will be offering a class called: 'Topics: Sean Combs & Urban Culture. The course aims to shed light on how Combs became a successful mogul and hip-hop producer.
It is no secret that his record company, Bad Boy Records is one of the biggest record labels to appear in the 90s. One of their biggest artists and possibly the greatest rapper of all time, The Notorious BIG, bolstered the success. Unfortunately, he was gunned down and a coastal feud. Six months prior to his death, his rival 2Pac as gunned down in similar fashion.

Combs then went on into the liquor business, having a share in Ciroc. In 2013, he launched his first TV channel, Revolt TV, a music channel based in America. To find out more on the course click here. For other US-based colleges offering similar courses, click here.

11 Ways to Tell if Your Lover Loves You

Relationships. One human quality that no one can survive without. Sure you can be alone, but not for long because you will need others to co-exist. This particularly takes me back to the days of solitary confinement, during those days of oppression. The old regime would banish you to a strange area and most times be on your own just to break your spirit. Some comrades start experiencing hallucinations, and noises. Fortunately, that did not stop them from liberating us and we are really thankful, but this is not the reason for this post.

When you are in a relationship, there are certain gestures that will tell you whether your partner is in to you or not. In my case, the way my girlfriend would stare at me and listen attentively will tell me how much she loves me. For others it is through actions and through material possessions. Each of us have different ways of knowing what our partners think of our love. Want to find out more? Then head over here and take note of the eleven tips that will guide you in your search of authenticity.

Dear Westernized World, Stop The Name Massacre!

There is nothing more frustrating than an individual who massacres the pronounciation of your name. They pronounce it in that condescending, "it is not my mother tongue" attitude to a point you want to slap them! Especially, Afrikaaners (I am not attacking). It was very evident during high school. They tend to come up with unexplainable versions of your name, like one of my high school rugby coaches would say 'Busisiwe' whenever he wanted to say 'Sbusiso'.

When I was still in primary school, only one teacher could pronounce my Sotho name although with a Tswana dialect ('g' instead of 'h'), and since grade 2 I've been called Daniel up til this day. Recently, a woman from England came under attack for calling Barack Obama 'Barraco Barner'. To make matters worse, she even thought Obama was THEIR prime minister, (shameful).

The Western world have a strong penchant for frowning upon those of us who mispronounce their names, especially the Spanish and French. During first year, I decided to take up French. The pronounciation was really stressed upon. Writer Sitinga Kachipande has released a fantastic article on this 'massacre', I urge you to read it, it will help!

Kanye West x Adidas Collab Coming In September?

(By Kim Kardashian)

A few months have passed since Kanye West announced that he had severed ties with iconic Portland-based Nike and jumped onto the Adidas ship. This came as a shock to sneakerheads and fans of West's 'Yeezy' lineup. The line is also famous for the rap line, "The Yeezys jumped over the Jumpmans" where West boasts about the success of his line of sneakers. West also famously made it known (about the Adidas deal) that he was done with Nike.

During a radio interview on Sway In The Morning (in the USA), he went on a rant on how Nike marginalized him and his creative efforts. He was clearly disgruntled that not enough creative muscle and money were put into his lines. West also designed sneakers for Louis Vuitton and female shoes for Giuseppe Zanotti.

There could be a drop in September. West reportedly claims to have designed 20 pairs of sneakers for Adidas. This tells us how relaxed the German outfit is when it comes to control and creativity, compares to their American counterparts. To listen to Kanye discuss his Adidas collaboration, please click here.

Champagne Wishes and Caviar Dreams

"Champagne Wishes and Caviar Dreams" - that was a phrase famously coined by veteran lifestyle American entertainment celebrity reporter writer, Robin Leach. Leach is more famous for hosting the popular show, Lifestyles of the Rich and Famous. He was even mentioned in Notorious BIG's single, Juicy.

Lifestyles of the Rich and Famous was a popular show that would profile wealthy celebrities, athletes and business moguls. The show's title changed when Robin was joined by Shari Belafonte, and the show was called Lifestyles with Robin Leach and Shari Belafonte during its final season. I particularly remember how it would fascinate me whenever the show played on SABC3 (if I remember correctly) in the early 2000s.

But what reminded me of this program, was a Tumblr blog called Rich Kids of Instagram. RKOI is a blog that 'profiles' the lives of those born with a silver spoon in their mouthes. To see more of their lavish lifestyles, I suggest you head here

2015 Mercedes-Benz S63 Coupe AMG

Now this will be well received by hardcore Mercedes-Benz fans. The Stuttgart, German-based automobile manufacturer has decided to reintroduce the S-Class coupe back in the S-Class model lineup. It has been almost 22 years since the last genuine S-Class coupe rolled off the assembly line. 'Genuine' because from 1999, the coupe was called 'CL-class'.

The first one, the 300 S  launched in 1952, which paved the way for the big body Mercedes-Benz coupes. It was followed by the 1956 220 S and 220 SE. 1961 saw the launch of the 220 SEb and 300 SEC, then 20 years later saw the launch of the most successful S-Class coupe of the 20th century, the 380 SEC and 500 SEC. One distinctive feature is the fact that none of them were offered in AMG trim. It seemed 'inhumane' souping up a touring coupe.

Personally, the 600 SEC is my favorite out of the whole lineage. the big exterior and roomy interior, coupled with luxurious fabrics, ample legroom and nostalgic analogue display and knobs makes it an instant classic. I hope to purchase one in the nex three years, along with a 1980s 560 SEC.

To find out more about the new S63 coupe and its tech specifications, head over here and be prepared to cry!

Thuli Madonsela's Inpsiring Letter to Her 16-Year-Old Self

We all know Thuli Madonsela as the no-nonsense Public Protector. She has been in the news more often in the past years for bringing to light the procurement of the SAPS headquarters, the ICE headquarters and most recently the Nkandla report.

But I don't think people know that she was one of the 11 legal experts who drafted our current Constitution. She is a mother of two, a boy and a girl. In 2012, O's editor Sam Page put together a collection of letters, written by South Africans, to their teenage selves. This letter to her 16-year old self gives us a touching insight into Thuli Madonsela's life before she was the Public Protector that we know and love. Please head over here and read this inspiring letter.

The Life and Times of the Bucket Hat

The bucket hat has always been a staple of popular culture. It started off in Ireland, where fishermen and farmers wore it as a means of protection from the sun. It soon found its way to England, where the upper class made it 'classy' as they wore it for fishing. Apparently when folded, it can form a pocket square hence the English's affection with the bucket hat.

Locally, the iconic headgear is affectionately called "ispoti". It is very popular with the majority black youths and has been a part of "is'pantsula" dance routine and attire. Moreover, it fits perfectly with the many dress styles one can find in the country.

In the US, it was made famous by many influential and legendary rappers, such as Big Daddy Kane, LL Cool J and Run-DMC to name a few. Kangol held a major monopoly on the game, I remember because my sisters grew up in the 90s and I practically wore their clothing (without their consent). I remember my eldest sister had Kangol flat caps and buckets hats, often pairing them with oversized clothing. My other sister pretty much also wore the same style.

To find out more about the bucket hat's indelible impact on fashion and pop culture, head over here.

Bump The Cheese Up Remix Launch Party at Kitchener's

Yesterday, we were treated to the launch of 'Bump The Cheese Up' remix hosted by Kool Out Lounge at Kitchener's in Braamfontein, Johannesburg. 'Bump The Cheese Up' is a popular local by Reason featuring comedian Tol A$$ Mo, Tumi (from the Volume) and Ginger Trill. The remix features seasoned rappers, AKA, Okmalumkoolkat and again, comedian, Tol A$$ Mo.

The event started off with Reason welcoming the other performers onto the stage and began rapping lines off of the 'January Freestyle' single. Malumkoolkat also performed one of his signature singles, 'Papap! Papap! Papap!' which sent the crowd into hysteria! Unfortunately, AKA did not perform as I was hoping he would perform 'Congratulate' or any of his popular songs.

Then the big moment arrived: the artists of the night (sans Tol A$$ Mo) performed the new track! The bars and lines had the crowd in a frenzy, as they rapped and threw subliminal punchlines, and the new song proved to be a success. After that blessed moment, we were blessed by the likes of DJ Akio and Mr X to name a few, who kept us on the dance floor till the wee hours of the morning.

Derby Fever!!!

The whole nation has been engulfed by derby fever. Battle lines have been drawn, friendships have been put aside and some couples are going to give each other the silent treatment if either of their teams lose come the end of the 90 minutes! Still don't know what I'm talking about? It is arguably Africa's biggest derby match, Kaiser Chiefs VS Orlando Pirates!!

Pirates go into this game having won the original derby against Moroka Swallows mid week. Chiefs will be looking to recover from a 2-0 defeat at the hands of Platinum Stars, which saw them surrender a 15-match unbeaten streak. However, Chiefs will be without their talisman captain, Itumeleng Khune, who is out injured. Orlando Pirates have been boosted with the return of key players, Siyabonga Sangweni, Rooi Mahamutsa & Patrick Phungwayo. One other big matter will be whether Lehlohonolo Majoro will get to play against his former club.

Will Pirates add more injury onto Chiefs and gain a further 3 points? Or will the Glamour Boys pull one over the Mighty Buccaneers? Only time will tell! Tune into Supersport 4 or SABC 1 for live coverage at the FNB stadium tomorrow!!

Wrongfully Convicted!!

I recently read a story on a man who spent 30 years iu jail, for a crime he never even committed. What is infuriating, is the racial motivation behind his conviction which really prevalent in the United States.

Glenn Ford was arrested, tried and convicted for the 5 November 1983 murder of his fomer employer, Isadore Rozeman. In 1984, Ford was placed on deathrow which meant he could be executed by lethal injection. Now we do not have such, since the death penalty was abolished. Ford spent 30 years Louisiana State Penitentiary before new evidence finally proved his statement.

What angers me, is the fact that he will never get those years back. When he went in (to jail), his sons were young. Now, they are grown men with children of their own. This man, was judged by an all-white jury. He is not the only one. America's history is tainted with gross acts of injustice, quite similar to what went through with apartheid.

To find out about more wrongfully-convicted inmates, please head here.

Jackson Pollock's 'Mural"

Paul Jackson Pollock. More commonly known as Jackson Pollock, and if you still do not know, then Google is your friend, my friend! Pollock has definitely has to be one of my favorite modern artists/painters of our time. His intricate and 'complicated' artworks have mesmerized a lot of people (me included) over the years.

One of my favorite art pieces he ever created, is the 'Mural'. Nearly 2-and-a-half meters high, and 6 meters wide of beautiful art, reminiscent of Matisse's art. He is one of the most influential expressionist artists of the 20th century, along side Andy Warhol to name one.

One thing that particularly drew me to his work, is his method of letting paint drip. He would splash paint directly onto the canvas, instead of using paint brushes conventionally. The man certainly had a great future in the art world, alas, he died at age 44 in a car accident.

Recently in the US, there was a resurgence in interest in Pollock's 'Mural' painting. Please head here and find out why it is highly-regarded still 71 years on.

M-Net Has Appointed Its First Black Female CEO

Well this should come as great news to all of us (as black people). M-Net has appointed the first black female CEO, this has certainly raised the stakes. From now on, we expect to see more and more black CEOs, CFOs and COOs. Yolisa Phahle has certainly paved a way for the rest of us.

Although Yolisa was born and raised in England, she came back to South Africa. She once performed with Duran Duran (which happens to be one of my favorite bands). In 1998, she joined BBC World where four years later she became a senior music producer. She is responsible for turning Channel O into Africa's biggest music channel and launching youth channel Vuzu, while also introducing local content channels, Mzansi Magic and Mzansi Music.

Mark Mayambela Settling In Well In Sweden

This should come as great news to all soccer fans! Mark Mayambela seems to have fit in at new club, Djurgardens IF. He himself should be relieved because he struggled to get game time in the PSL. If you are an Orlando Pirates fan (like me, YAAY!!!) you would remember that Mark was such a crowd-pleaser as he played the type of football highly favoured by township football fans,  affectionately known as 'shoe shine' football. He never lived up to the hype, and was relegated to the reserve league.

Recently he went for trials in Sweden and really impressed the technical team, now he has made his debut and the fans seemed to be loving him. Below will be a video of the fans laying adoration on him and a link on his story in Sweden.

Yasin Bey (Mos Dref)

STOP THE PRESS!!! MOS DEF HAS BEEN LIVING IN SOUTH AFRICA!!!! Okay maybe I'm a few months late, but Yasiin Bey (as he is called lately) has been residing in the Mother City. He has been staying here since May last year. I was really surprised that he is now residing here, considering all the noise created when Brangelina graced our shores. Major roads were closed, traffic congestion was at an all-time worse, and people complained.

I am just glad we do not have the same papparazzi insanity that other major cities in North America and Europe experience. To hear more about his (Yasiin Bey) stay in our country head over here.

TRAVEL: 5 of the best markets in Cape Town (7 March 2014)

(Central Cape Town from Lions Head, Andrew Massyn, 2007)

Well I bet you are wondering, "Cape Town? During March? Never!". This might come as a 'shock' to you, but Cape Town (Durban, or any other coastal city) is not reserved for December holidays but you can go over there at any time of the year!! Mind-blown?! Moving right along.

Cape Town is a really majestic city. Don't take my word for it, (partly because I haven't been there since 2007, embarrassing I know) you can type in your Google search bar and you will be bombarded by amazing and brilliant picturesque scenes of the Mother City. Personally, I want to relocate to the Mother City, just to experience the energy and nostalgia that I experienced during my last sojourn.

Well for those lucky individuals who will traveling down there soon, South African Travelista has published five must-visit markets in Cape Town. Now, one that strikes me the most is Neighbourgoods Market. I am a fan of the Johannesburg, Braamfontein-based branch, and if you are to, then this will be up your alley. Now I don't want to spoil all the fun, so head over here to find out about these fantastic markets!

#THROWBACK THURSDAY: SUMMERTIME FUN (6 March 2014)

On the first day of the month, (THIS month in case you are wondering), my friends and I attended Goodfolx’s ‘annual’ Summertime Fun event Emerald Resort and Casino. I use the term ‘annual’ loosely in order to give you an idea that this goes down yearly and never to be missed!
Enough about that now, see this year around, Cassper Nyovest was the main act. He has been riding on the crest of his latest hit single, “Doc Shebeleza” which has seen over a hundred thousand downloads. Pretty epic. That is not all, the likes of local (Vaal) talents DJ Crazy Mo, DJ SPEEDSTA, DJ Chocolatebar and seasoned jockeys such as Soulkid, Ms Cosmo and Master M kept pumping those hits one after the other.
I have included a short video just to give you a little taste of what went. Hopefully next time, you will jump at the opportunity at being part of the Goodfolx experience!! (Forgive the resolution, You’ll have to ‘break’ your neck to have a proper view).

A Few Safety Tips For Drivers During The Rainy Days! (5 March 2014)

It has been raining a lot lately, and that means that we all have to be vigilant, pedestrian and driver alike. Given the state in which most of our roads are, potholes have seemingly doubled or nearly tripled in girth and ‘availability’. Most potholes that have been repaired get damaged even before the repair work holds ground, which leads to a few damaged tires and undercarriages.
Earlier on today, I read a story on Orlando Pirates midfielder, Rooi Mahamutsa. He had been involved in a horrific accident, which resulted in his car being written off. Luckily, he escaped unscathed with minor injuries. Men’s Health Magazine has supplied us with six tips to help improve your driving skills. They range from learning how to take a corner to avoid animals on the road. Head over here to find out more on Rooi’s story. For the six tips, you can click here.

André Leon Talley Chooses Kim Kardashian as "Style Muse" (4 March 2014)

André Leon Talley is a well-respected fashion aficionado and critic.  He is a front-row regular at some of the most famous fashion shows in Milan, New York, London and Paris for more than 25 years now. He was even the late Andy Warhol’s assistant but he is perhaps known for his stints at Vogue between 1983 - 1995 and 1997 till present. Personally, my favorite quote from him is, “I don’t consider myself a slave to fashion, but a custodian and curatorial person of fashion.”
Recently, he chose Kim Kardashian as his latest style muse, which would come as a surprise to most. Most of us do know how much Anna Wintour ‘loathes’ Kim, to such an extent that she famously cropped her (Kim) out of a picture with Kanye at Met Gala in 2013. For his latest editorial piece for Zappos Couture, he lays praise on the businesswoman and mother. To read the whole article, go here.

Oscars broadcast stopped in Russia after Jared Leto mentions Ukraine (3 March 2014)

After the best supporting actor Oscar-winner supported Ukraine in his acceptance speech, Channel One suspended coverage. Ben Child

The country’s biggest television station had earlier stated it would offer live coverage of the Oscar awards, instead after Leto’s comments it was pulled off air. The state-run TV channel then offered to play a recorded version at 4 am (on Monday, 3 March Moscow time). More on this story here.

A New Month (2 March 2014)

March. A new month for a new start. In our country, it signals a new turn in the season as we’re fast approaching autumn, then those unwanted months of winter.
But to most of us, it marks yet another of the Sharpeville Massacre. On 21 March 1960, during a peaceful demonstration, police opened fire on an unarmed crowed. After the dust settled, 69 people lay dead and hundreds more lay wounded. From this point forward, The Struggle intensified, with the introduction of Mkhonto we Sizwe in 1961. We salute the fallen heroes risked their lives for the emancipation our people.
One other thing ‘least known’, Namibia was under South African rule from 1919 to 1990, after defeating the German forces in World War 1. According to Wikipedia, white farmers constituted inly 0.2% of the population but owned 74% of the land. South Africa also introduced homelands in South West Africa. They gained independence on 21 March 1990 when Sam Nujoma became the first democratically-elected president of Namibia.

Apple Unveils CarPlay (1 March 2014)

Now you would remember that yesterday while talking about the forthcoming Brabus 800 iBusiness, I mentioned Apple's multimedia system. Basically it will control your vehicle's on-board computer screen and will work in tandem with your controls.

I particularly feel jealous that I didn't not get a car with a touch screen (albeit mine has Bluetooth which SLIGHTLY makes up for the lack of a touch screen) but I feel like it would have made the whole inner functioning of my entertainment system well and faultless, but for those with touch screens, you are in luck!

CarPlay will link up with your Apple device (iPad or iPhone) and adapt itself to your vehicle's internal display. It will be well-received for many that are always agitated by not having full control of their vehicle and device simultaneously. In order to find out about availability and access to CarPlay, click here.

Brabus 800 iBusiness (28 February 2014)

Before you start losing your mind and starting to think what on earth is a Brabus 800 iBusiness, you can be rest assured that it is not an Apple product nor a hand-held device. It is a vehicle. Now, I bet you are relived and wondering (yet again) what kind of car it is, sit back and relax and get the 'low-down'!

Firstly, Brabus is automotive tuning company famously associated with Mercedes-Benz. Basically they take a basic Mercedes-Benz model and just set about transforming it - from the engine to the interior. What you end up with is a souped up (a term car enthusiasts use to refer to modified vehicles) Mercedes-Benz, but an extra cost. I have yet to see a Brabus 'Benz on South African roads. I'm not particularly a big fan, because I believe that somethign as elegant and as lovely as a Mercedes should not receive that kind of treatment.

Alas, back to the topic at hand, the i800 is a modified Mercedes-Benz G65 AMG. It receives an upgraded V12 engine pushing 579 Kw of power. They have also included Apple's multimedia system, which means you will be receiving world-class and unparalleled quality computing systems. To find out more and see some lovely pictures of the 800 iBusiness, click here.
